Torontonians Exchange More than A Language At A Weekly Meet-up

More than 35 Torontonians participated in a LoveArabic Exchange meetup that took place at Arabesque Dance & Music Arts studio last weekend. Arabic learners immersed themselves in Arabic culture through language, music, and food. They practiced dialect Arabic with native speakers and listened to a magical live musical performance by special guests Suzanne and George Sawa that got people singing and dancing. LoveArabic Exchange is a weekly Arabic language exchange meet-up that takes place in Toronto. Shady Hafez: Life as an Algonquin-Arab in Canada

A good piece was written about an Anishinabe-Syrian called Shady Hafez on Canada's Muslim Link website. “I was raised by my Syrian grandparents in a traditional Muslim household, but on weekends, I would stay with my mother in Kitigan Zibi,” he explained. When he visited his mother, her family would take him out hunting and fishing and sometimes he would attend Pow Wow, where First Nations communities gather to dance, sing and socialize. Noel Kharman, a Palestinian singer, partnered up with musician Audinius to bring us a Arabic-Spanish mashup of the hit song 'Despacito'. The song is a mix between Ahmed Al Mossali's Akheeran Qalha and Luis Fonsi's Despacito.
